Jack A. Markell Trail

Looking for a good place to run or bike? This trail has a little bit for everyone! If you start in Wilmington, you can park for free at the Dupont Environmental Educational Center. Otherwise you can take this trail in reverse and start from the New Castle Battery Park and work your way back to Wilmington.

The trail itself is about 6 miles one way (or 12 miles round trip), it is a relative smooth flat trail which makes it great for biking or a long run. And if you are looking for a few more miles this trail also connects into the riverwalk trail.

When you start near the Dupont Environmental Education Center, you will first go over a pretty good stretch of natural swam land where the trail is elevated with a wooden trail bridge, then after this portion it switches to concentrate. Near the Dupont Environmental Education Center, you will also get some neat views of downtown Wilmington, a real gem for some great pictures! Once you make your way down to New Castle you will end at the Delaware River. A beautiful spot to enjoy the view and take a break for lunch or a few minutes to rest. There is plenty of green space here to have a picnic as well.
