White Clay Creek

White Clay Creek is a State Park in Delaware and is a Preserve in Pennsylvania. Because of this, it has a daily use fee in Delaware when you park your car. While, if you park in Pennsylvania it is free. The park has different things to offer in both states.

My favorite trail is the Penn Del trail. This trail runs 5.1 miles one way, starting in Pennsylvania and ending in Delaware. I really like that in Pennsylvania the trail runs near the water. While in Delaware, the trail winds in and out near the river, but it still runs along the trail as it progresses. In my experience running this trail, the Delaware portion tends to attract more visitors than the Pennsylvania part. But the trail is never crowded.

White Clay Creek is an excellent choose for trail runners, since there are some trails that are quite flat and others that are more hilly. It is also a good choice to hike, especially when you are looking for something moderate and not too strenuous.

Something to note, is that some trails closes temporarily throughout the year mainly for hunting season. But there are markers on the trail maps throughout the park. The PennDel Trail, however, is open all year round. Making this trail a good choice, if it is your first time to the park. To give you an idea on just how neat this trail is, the picture above is taken on the Delaware portion of the trail where it crosses the creek by a bridge.

This park is definitely worth a visit whether you live in Delaware/Pennsylvania, or you are just stopping in town. This area of Delaware is beautiful! You will likely see animals along this trail as well, ranging from deer to birds.
